Northumberland County Commissioners Honor Legendary Lycoming Football Coach Frank Girardi

Sunbury, PA - According to the Daily Item, the commissioners presented a proclamation to retired football coach Frank Girardi.

Girardi, 76, a 36-year football coach from Lycoming College who will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in December, coached hundreds of players from Northumberland County schools, including Schiccatano. His record was 257-97-4.

“He has helped and coached so many athletes in our area,” Schiccatano said. “We have kids from every high school who played for this coach.”

Girardi’s legacy is his players, he said.

Girardi said he will always have a special place in his heart for coal region athletes.

The world changed in 2001 and Lycoming Head Coach Frank Girardi was someone who kept things in perspective and gave much needed support.
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – At the end of the 1971 football season, Frank Girardi got a knock on his door. An assistant coach for the Lycoming College football team, he was surprised to find then-Lycoming College President Harold Hutson there. The conversation was quick, as Girardi remembers it, and by the time Hutson left, Girardi was the head coach of the Warriors.
