Girardi, 76, a 36-year football coach from Lycoming College who will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in December, coached hundreds of players from Northumberland County schools, including Schiccatano. His record was 257-97-4.
“He has helped and coached so many athletes in our area,” Schiccatano said. “We have kids from every high school who played for this coach.”
Girardi’s legacy is his players, he said.
Girardi said he will always have a special place in his heart for coal region athletes.
